Test E: Central Security Module/Remote Anti-Theft Personality Module Does Not Respond To NGS Tester

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. On models built before 7/24/00, disconnect Central Security Module (CSM) 26-pin harness connector C274a. CSM is located behind right side of instrument panel. See Figure . On models built after 7/24/00, disconnect Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module C309a 26-pin harness connector. RAP module is located behind left quarter panel on Explorer Sport or behind left side of rear window on Explorer Sport Trac. See Figure or Figure . On all models, inspect connector for physical damage, bent terminals or corrosion. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is not okay, repair connector as necessary. Retest system for normal operation.
  2. Measure resistance of Light Blue/White wire between CSM C274a or RAP module harness connector C309a terminal No. 3 and DLC terminal No. 7. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Blue/White wire. Retest system for normal operation.
  3. Disconnect all RAP module harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion or pushed out pins. Connect all RAP module harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace RAP module. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
