Anti-Theft Systems - Active: Description

WARNING: Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.

Active anti-theft system is designed to prevent unauthorized entry into engine, passenger or liftgatecompartments. When alarm is triggered, horn sounds and exterior lights flash. This system does not enable/disable engine from starting but may be used in conjunction with passive anti-theft system. Some system functions may also tie in with remote keyless entry system. When armed, unauthorized entry is detected by Generic Electronic Module (GEM) and supplies a ground signal to headlights, flashers and horn relay.

When triggered, system sounds horn, and flashes exterior lights. Models have a PANIC feature that operates in conjunction with anti-theft system and remote keyless entry system. When PANIC button on remote transmitter is pushed, horn will sound and exterior lights will flash. Active anti-theft system does not arm until 20 seconds elapses after GEM receives a lock command, and detects all ajar switches are closed. If all switches are closed, exterior lights will flash and system will immediately arm.
