Test B: Set Speed Fluctuates

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove speed control cable from speed control actuator. See SPEED CONTROL CABLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Visually inspect core wire and speed control cable by pulling on it while observing throttle movement. If speed control cable and throttle body linkage are okay, go to next step. If speed control cable and throttle body linkage are not okay, replace speed control cable or repair/replace throttle body linkage.
  2. Drive vehicle and observe speedometer operation. If speedometer needle fluctuates, repair speedometer as necessary. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - ESCAPE article. If speedometer needle does not fluctuate, replace speed control actuator. See SPEED CONTROL ACTUATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
