On-Demand Self-Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

On-demand self-test option is used to verify that no electrical concerns exist with air bag system. Upon entering self-test, Restraints Control Module (RCM) will make an electrical check of each air bag system electrical component. If a fault is detected, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is displayed on scan tool, with brief description of DTC. Faults detected during self-test are not stored in memory, unless same fault was also detected during normal vehicle operation. Self-test should always be run after any repair to verify that repair was successful.

To run on-demand self-test:

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under instrument panel.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  3. Follow manufacturer's instructions for the scan tool being used.
  4. RCM will run on-demand self-test and display on-demand DTCs on tester screen.
