Steering Column: Installation

    All Vehicles 

    WARNING: When installing the steering column, make sure new nyloc nuts are installed. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    CAUTION: Make sure the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.

  1. Install the steering column.
  2. WARNING: Install a new steering column pinch bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury

  3. Connect the steering column shaft to the power steering gear pinion extension.
    1. Connect the pinion shaft extension to the steering column shaft.
    2. Install the bolt.
  4. Attach the wiring harness to the steering column.
    1. Attach the wiring harness to the steering column.
    2. Install the locating pin.

  5. Connect the ignition switch and turn signal/flash-to-pass switch electrical connectors.

  6. Connect the PATS transceiver, wiper/washer switch and clockspring/steering wheel rotation sensor/speed control electrical connectors.

  7. Install the steering column lower shroud.
    1. Lower the steering column locking lever.
    2. Install the screws.

  8. Install the audio control switch (if equipped).
    1. Connect the audio control switch electrical connector.
    2. Install the audio control switch.

  9. Attach the steering column upper shroud to the lower shroud.

  10. Attach the hood release cable and the data link connector (DLC) electrical connector to the instrument panel lower panel.

  11. Attach the instrument panel lower panel to the instrument panel.
    1. Secure the fastener.
    2. Install the screws.

  12. Vehicles With Stability Assist 

  13. Activate the SRS. For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
  14. WARNING: The electronic stability program must be reconfigured. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  15. Configure the electronic stability program using WDS.
