Engine - iB5 Transaxle: Installation

- Using the special tool and a floor crane to position the engine to the transaxle.
- Tighten the transaxle flange lower bolts.
- Tighten the transaxle flange left-hand bolts.
- Install the starter motor and tighten the flange bolt.

- Install the retaining clamp.
- Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & HOISTING .
- Locate the engine and transmission assembly on the assembly stand in installation position underneath the vehicle.
- Carefully lower the vehicle.
- Install the bolts.
- Transaxle upper flange bolts.
- Starter motor bolts.
- Install the ground strap.
- Install the engine front mount.
- Install the engine rear mount.
- Connect the high-pressure tube to the clutch slave cylinder.
- Remove the retaining strap from the transaxle.
- Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & HOISTING
.
- Remove the assembly stand.
- Using the special tool, install both front drive halfshafts (right-hand side shown).
- Install the right-hand engine support insulator.
- Attach both lower arms (right-hand side shown).
- Install the flexible exhaust pipe.
- Install the gearshift cables.
- Attach the gearshift cables to the brackets by twisting the abutment brackets counterclockwise.
- Install the cover for the gearshift cables.
- Install the air conditioning compressor.
- Install the catalytic converter. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Tighten the engine front mount nuts and bolts.
- Tighten the engine rear mount nuts.
- Install the power steering pump.
- Using the special tool to prevent the power steering pump from rotating install the power steering pump pulley nut.
Install the power steering pump pulley.
- Install the accessory drive belt.
- Turn the belt tensioner clockwise.
- Push the power steering fluid reservoir into place.
- Install the coolant expansion tank.
- Install the cooling fan to the radiator.
- Position the air deflector and clip on at the top on both sides (left-hand side shown).
- Install the cooling fan wiring harness.
- Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & HOISTING .
- Install the accessory drive belt cover.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the coolant hoses to the coolant hose connector.
- Install the coolant hose to the coolant tube.
- Install the coolant hose to the water pump.
- Install the coolant hose to the intake manifold.
- Connect the fuel pipe.
- Connect the vacuum hoses.
- Connect the vacuum hose.
- Connect the vacuum hoses.
- EVAP hose
- Brake servo hose
- Delta pressure feedback vacuum hoses
- EGR hose
- Connect the reversing lamp electrical connector.
- Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
- Connect the cooling fan electrical connector.
- Secure the cable with cable ties.
- Connect both PCM electrical connectors.
- Connect the electrical connectors.
- Power steering pump pressure switch electrical connector
- Generator electrical connector
- Heated oxygen sensor electrical connector
- Install the speed control cable.
- Hook the cable in place.
- Clip on the plastic clip.
- Install the accelerator cable.
- Hook the cable in place.
- Clip on the plastic clip.
- Install the air cleaner intake pipe.
- Install the air cleaner (ACL).
- Insert the air cleaner housing into the rubber bushing.
- Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector.
- Install the outlet pipe.
- Attach the ground cable.
- Tighten the suspension strut nut on both sides (right-hand side shown).
- Use a box end wrench and tighten finger tight.
- Use a torque wrench and tighten to the specified torque.
- Install the battery tray.
- Install the positive and negative cables.
- Tighten the bolts.
- Clip on the wiring harness.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Fill the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Fill the engine with engine oil.
All Vehicles
NOTE:
Use new retaining clamp.
NOTE:
Install the bolts and nuts finger tight.
NOTE:
Install the nuts finger tight.
CAUTION:
Brake fluid will escape. Observe the safety regulations for the use of brake fluid.

CAUTION:
The inner part of the constant velocity joint must not be bent at more than 18 degrees, the outer part no more than 45 degrees.
NOTE:
Use a new boot clamp.

Use an Allen key to stop the piston rod from turning.
