Main Control Valve Body: Removal

CAUTION: MERCON®, MERCON®V, MERCON®SP, Motorcraft Premium Automatic Transmission Fluid and Motorcraft Continuously Variable Chain Type Transmission Fluid are not interchangeable transmission fluids. The use of any fluid other than what is recommended for this transmission will cause transmission damage.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
Remove the transmission fluid drain plug and allow the fluid to drain.

Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes at the transaxle.

Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket and position the tubes aside.

Remove the transmission fluid pan bolts and remove the pan.

CAUTION: When removing the sealer, use care not to damage the sealing surface.

Remove the sealer off the fluid pan.
Disconnect the wire harness from the solenoids.
1. Remove the wire harness from the clamps.
  - Disconnect the 8 solenoid connectors and the 2 speed sensor connectors.

Remove the 2 speed sensor wires from the solenoid clamp.

Remove the bolt and the lock plate and pull out the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor.

Remove the 2 bolts, suction cover and gasket.

Remove the 6 main control valve body bolts in the sequence shown.

NOTE: Be careful when removing the main control valve body, the manual control lever will fall out of its bore. Also once all the bolts are removed the main control valve body will fall out of the transaxle.

Remove the main control valve body.
