Test C: Charge Warning Indicator Flickers Or Is Intermittent
- Turn ignition off. Inspect generator connections, battery junction box connections and battery cable connections for looseness, damage or corrosion. Repair as necessary and check system operation. If all connections are okay, go to next step.
- Ensure voltage regulator brush holder screws (terminal "A" and "F") are secure. See Figure
. If screws are secure, go to next step. If screws are not secure, tighten as necessary and check system operation.
- Disconnect generator 3-pin connector. Remove voltage regulator. See VOLTAGE REGULATOR
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between each generator slip ring and ground. See Fig 1
. If resistance is greater than 200 ohms between both slip rings and ground, install new voltage regulator. If resistance between one or both slip rings and ground is 200 ohms or less, clean slip rings and retest. If resistance is still 200 ohms or less, replace generator. See GENERATOR
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check system operation.
