Test E: Intermittent Does Not Operate Properly

NOTE: After repair, repeat FEM self-test and clear DTCs.
  1. Use results from Front Electronic Module (FEM) self-test. If DTC B1446 was retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1448 was retrieved, go to step  4 . If no DTCs were retrieved, go to step  6 .
  2. Test wiper on/off relay. See WIPER & WASHER RELAYS  under COMPONENT TESTS. If wiper on/off relay is okay, go to next step. If relay is faulty, replace relay.
  3. Disconnect FEM 22-pin harness connector C191. Measure resistance of Black/Pink wire between terminal No. 13 at FEM harness connector C191 and terminal No. 4 at wiper on/off relay socket. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace FEM. See FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE (FEM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Pink wire between wiper on/off relay, splice S127, splice S140 and FEM.
  4. Test wiper on/off relay. See WIPER & WASHER RELAYS  under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay is okay, go to next step. If relay is faulty, replace relay.
  5. Disconnect FEM 22-pin harness connector C191. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4 (Black/Pink wire) at wiper on/off relay socket. See Figure . If voltage exists, repair short to power in Black/Pink wire. If voltage does not exist, replace FEM. See FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE (FEM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Disconnect multifunction switch 10-pin harness connector C263. Test wiper/washer portion of multifunction switch. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is faulty, replace multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Disconnect FEM 20-pin harness connector C346. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (Red/Yellow wire) at FEM harness connector C346. See Figure . If voltage exists, repair short to power in Red/Yellow wire between FEM, splice S330 and central junction box. If voltage does not exist, replace FEM. See FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE (FEM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
