Test H: Set Speed Fluctuates

NOTE: After completing any repairs, perform self-diagnostics. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM  .
  1. Turn ignition off. Remove speed control actuator cable from servo. Visually inspect cable, and throttle movement. If speed control servo actuator cable checks okay, go to next step. If speed control servo actuator does not check okay, replace speed control servo actuator cable. See SPEED CONTROL ACTUATOR CABLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Test drive vehicle and observe speedometer. If speedometer fluctuates, repair speedometer as necessary. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - SABLE & TAURUS article. If speedometer does not fluctuate, replace speed control servo. Retest system operation.
