Test E: Power Lumbar Support Inoperative

  1. Operate seat back cushion to INFLATE position. If pump does not run, go to next step. If pump runs, go to step  6 .
  2. Disconnect power lumbar switch harness connector C313. Measure voltage of Dark Green wire terminal at power lumbar switch harness connector C313. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair power distribution circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article under WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Disconnect lumbar motor harness connector C308. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal at power lumbar motor harness connector C308. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  4. Connect power lumbar switch harness connector C313. Measure voltage of Black/White wire terminal at power lumbar motor harness connector C308 while operating lumbar switch to inflate position. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace power lumbar motor.
  5. Disconnect power lumbar switch harness connector C313. Measure resistance of Black/White wire between power lumbar switch harness connector C313 and power lumbar motor harness connector C308. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace power lumbar switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire.
  6. Operate seat back cushion to INFLATE position. If seat back does not inflate, go to next step. If seat back inflates, go to step  10 .
  7. Inspect backrest adjusting bladder. If bladder is okay, go to next step. If bladder is damaged, replace bladder.
  8. Disconnect hose from power lumbar motor. Operate seat back cushion to INFLATE position. If air is felt from port on power lumbar motor, go to next step. If air is not felt from port on power lumbar motor, replace power lumbar motor.
  9. Connect hose to pump/motor. Disconnect hose from power lumbar switch. Activate power lumbar switch to inflate position. If air is felt at open hose, go to next step. If no air is felt at open hose, replace hose.
  10. Connect support bladder hose to power lumbar switch. Connect in-line pressure gauge to hose at support bladder. Hold power lumbar switch in inflate position until pressure is 5 psi (0.35 kg/cm2 ). Wait 3 hours. Observe pressure. If pressure does not hold, go to next step. If pressure holds, system is okay at this time.
  11. Disconnect hose from lumbar support bladder. Using hand pump, inflate bladder to 5 psi (0.35 kg/cm2 ). Wait 3 hours. Observe pressure. If pressure does not hold, replace lumbar support bladder. If pressure holds, replace power lumbar switch.
