Lower Ball Joint Checking

  1. Support vehicle with jackstands under lower control arm. Attach dial indicator to measure lateral (sideways) movement between wheel spindle and lower control arm.
  2. Grasp tire by top and bottom edges. Slowly move tire and wheel assembly in and out. If reading on dial indicator exceeds .015" (.38 mm), replace ball joint.
