Central Timer Module Self-Test

NOTE: Before performing Central Timer Module (CTM) self-test, verify customer concern. Visually inspect trip computer module and operating switch (Select and Reset button located on trip computer module or operating switch on steering column switch) for wiring and obvious defects. If no problems are found, perform CTM self-test.
NOTE: Test step numbers in CTM self-test procedure correspond with amount of times Select (S) button is to be pressed to perform each individual test.

To perform CTM self-test, press Select (S) button for 5 seconds after turning ignition switch to ON position. CTM is now in self-test mode. Perform individual tests in turn by pressing Select (S) button the required number of times for each test. Verify displays in Tripmeter. To end self-test mode, press Reset (R) button at any time.

  1. Illuminate all displays and segments. Sound generator transmits request signal (for 0.13 seconds, every 2 seconds).
  2. Illuminate all displays and segments. Sound generator stops.
  3. Vehicle is required to be moving for this test. Switches off all displays and segments. Tripmeter should display "km/h" as input signal from Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is evaluated and number of pulses is divided by 50 and displayed incrementally from "000" to "999".
  4. Engine is required to be running for this test. Display "L/h" should appear. Input signal from Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for fuel flow is evaluated and number of pulses is divided by 10 and displayed.
  5. Display "OL/100km" appears. Average consumption calculated is displayed.
  6. Symbol "Fuel pump" is displayed. Fuel gauge sender unit value is displayed in liters and/or gallons. If a break in circuit to fuel gauge sender unit exists, "O-C" is displayed. If circuit to fuel gauge sender unit is shorted, "S-C" is displayed.
  7. " --->Fuel pump symbol" and reference voltage value of fuel gauge sender unit are displayed.
  8. Display "MPG", current programmed correction factor for the flow quantity is displayed (value can be calibrated between -25 and +25).
  9. Display "°C", value of ambient temperature is displayed directly. "O-C" is displayed if value is below -40 °C or if there is a break in the circuit. "S-C" is displayed if value is greater than 65 °C or if there is a break in the circuit.
  10. Input voltage of illumination dimmer is compared to an internal value. If comparison is positive, "HI" is displayed. If comparison is negative, "LO" is displayed.
  11. Battery voltage is measured. "Lbt" is displayed to indicate voltage below 11.5 volts. "Hbt" is displayed to indicate battery voltage greater than 11.5 volts.
  12. Display "r8.8". Displays current ROM.
  13. Self-test mode returns to step 1.

If CTM fails self-test, perform further diagnosis with New Generation Star (NGS) tester.
