Test K: No Module/Network Communication - No Power To NGS Tester

  1. Inspect New Generation Star (NGS) tester connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary. If DLC is okay, go to next step.
  3. Check fuse junction panel fuse No. 3 (20-amp). Replace fuse as necessary. If fuse blows again, check for short to ground. Repair wiring as necessary. If fuse is okay, reinstall fuse and go to next step.
  4. Measure voltage between DLC terminal No. 16 (Light Blue/White wire) and ground. See Figure. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair Light Blue/White wire.
  5. Measure resistance between DLC terminal No. 4 (Black wire) and ground. See Figure. Also measure resistance between DLC terminal No. 5 (Black/White wire) and ground. If each resistance if less than 5 ohms, check NGS tester. If any resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in appropriate wire(s).
