Fail-Safe Function

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The 4F20E transaxle is equipped with a fail-safe control system. Fail-safe function is controlled by TCM and is designed to allow transaxle operation when damage to transaxle is detected. Fail-safe function will be activated if damage to any of the following components is detected.

Fail-safe function can also be activated by excessive wheel spin.
