Removal and Installation

WARNING:
Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately.
CAUTION:
Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plaster surface, immediately wash it with water.
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Disconnect the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module electrical connector by rotating the release lever.
- Remove the brake lines from the HCU.
- Remove the nuts and the HCU assembly.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
After removing the brake lines, cap the holes in the hydraulic control unit (HCU) to prevent dust or foreign matter from entering the brake line ports.
CAUTION:
After the HCU is installed, it is necessary to bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to

NOTE:
If a new HCU is going to be installed, remove the ABS module. Refer to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE .
