Description & Operation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Navigator and 2002 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Distance-To-Empty (DTE) may not be accurate if vehicle is started while it is in an inclined position.
Overhead console (message center) displays vehicle direction, Distance-To-Empty (DTE), average fuel economy (AVG) and an optional instant fuel economy (INST). The message center uses inputs from the compass sensor module, PCM and fuel level sensor located on fuel pump. Average fuel economy display can be reset by pressing and releasing the MODE and E/M buttons at the same time while in the average fuel economy mode and the key in the ON position, all other displays cannot be reset. When viewing distance-to-empty on message center display, a fuel fill of less than 6 gallons may not be detected by the message center.
