Removal And Installation: Clockspring: Installation

- Position the clockspring mounting bracket, if removed.
- Install the 3 clockspring mounting bracket screws.
- Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Connect the clockspring electrical connectors.
- If the vehicle's clockspring has rotated out of center, follow these steps to center the clockspring.
- Hold the clockspring outer housing stationary.
- While turning the rotor counterclockwise, carefully feel for the ribbon wire to run out of length and for a slight resistance. Stop turning at this point.
- Turn the clockspring clockwise approximately 3 turns. This is the center point of the clockspring. Do not allow the rotor to turn from this position.
CAUTION: Overturning will destroy the clockspring. The internal ribbon wire acts as the stop and can be broken from its internal connection. - Install the clockspring onto the steering column.
- With the flats of the clockspring aligned to the flats of the steering column, slide the clockspring onto the steering column.
- Install the 2 clockspring screws.
- For vehicles receiving a new clockspring, remove the retaining pin.
- For vehicles reusing the clockspring that was removed, remove the tape from the clockspring.
- Install the multi-function switch onto the steering column.
- Install the multi-function switch screw.
- Install the upper steering column shroud.
- Install the lower steering column shroud.
- Install the 3 lower steering column shroud screws.
- Attach the gear shift lever boot to the steering column shrouds.
- Install the lower steering column opening cover.
- Install the 2 lower steering column opening cover screws.
- Install the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
- Install the driver air bag module. For additional information, Refer to DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE .
- Repower the system. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
WARNING:
Incorrect centralization may result in premature component failure. If in doubt when centralizing the clockspring, repeat the centralizing procedure. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
Make sure the road wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
NOTE:
Slight turning of the clockspring rotor is allowable for alignment purposes to the steering column.
