Bleeding Hydraulic System
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage DO NOT spill brake fluid onto plastic or painted surfaces.
NOTE:
The fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir must be maintained at the 3/4 level or higher during air bleeding. Be sure to use High Performance DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid (C6AZ-19542-AB). The clutch hydraulic system must be bled whenever a clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder tube or hydraulic clutch hose is disconnected.
- Have an assistant fully depress the clutch pedal to the floor and hold it.
- With the clutch pedal held to the floor, loosen the bleeder screw until fluid and air are expelled from the system. See Fig 1 .
- With the clutch pedal held to the floor, tighten the bleeder screw.
- Repeat steps 1 - 3 until no air bubbles appear in the fluid.
