Grid Filament Repair

NOTE: Any single or combination of breaks in one grid totaling more than 1" (25 mm) in length cannot be repaired. If any breaks are larger than 1" (25.4 mm), the heated rear window glass must be replaced.
  1. Ensure vehicle is inside at a temperature of 60°F (16°C) or greater. Ensure repair area is free of all dirt, wax, grease, oil, or other foreign matter. Clean using denatured alcohol.
  2. Obtain Service Repair Kit (50-25-0584-0029). Place grid line mask directly over break, aligning cut out slots on either side of area to be repaired. See Fig 1 .
  3. Apply epoxy from service repair kit to repair area. Carefully remove mask without disturbing epoxy. Using service repair kit Hot Air Gun (107-R0300) or equivalent, heat area for 1-2 minutes from a distance of 1-2" (25-50 mm). Area should reach a temperature of about 300°F (149°C).
  4. Rear window defogger can be used immediately after repair. Optimum epoxy hardness and adhesion will take about 24 hours. Care should be taken to not to disturb repair area during this period.
