Test J: Trunk Does Not Unlock From Remote Transmitter

NOTE: This test only applies to sedan. If vehicle is a wagon, perform TEST L: LIFTGATE DOES NOT OPERATE AT RELEASE SWITCH  .
  1. Press remote keyless entry transmitter TRUNK button. If trunk lock releases, go to step 9)  . If trunk lock does not release, go to next step.
  2. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Access RAP FUNCTION TESTS, TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA. Press remote keyless entry transmitter TRUNK button. If LAST DATA RECEIVED displays TRUNK, go to next step. If LAST DATA RECEIVED does not display TRUNK, perform TEST D: LOCKS INOPERATIVE FROM REMOTE TRANSMITTER  .
  3. Remove trunk lid release relay. Measure voltage at connector terminal No. 85 at trunk lid release relay harness connector. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 5)  .
  4. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 30 (Purple/Yellow wire) at trunk lid release relay harness connector C258. If battery voltage exists, go to step 7)  . If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Purple/Yellow wire, between terminal No. 13 at instrument panel fuse block harness connector C258, splice S211 (located on left side of instrument panel fuse block) and terminal No. 30 at trunk lid release relay connector C258. See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  5. Remove fuse No. 26 (15-amp) from instrument panel fuse block. Measure resistance in Purple/Yellow wire between terminal No. 13 at instrument panel fuse block harness connector C247 and terminal No. 30 at trunk lid release relay harness connector C258. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Purple/Yellow wire between terminal No. 13 at instrument panel fuse block harness connector C247, splice S211 (located on left side of instrument panel fuse block) and terminal No. 30 at trunk lid release relay harness connector C258.
  6. Measure voltage at supply side of fuse No. 26. If battery voltage exists, check Purple/Yellow wire for short to ground between fuse No. 26, splice S211 (located on left side of instrument panel fuse block) and terminal No. 30 at trunk lid release relay harness connector C258. If battery voltage does not exist, check power distribution circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If power distribution circuit is okay, replace instrument panel fuse block.
  7. Disconnect trunk lid release solenoid harness connector C258. Measure resistance in Yellow/Light Green wire between terminal No. 87 at trunk lid release relay harness connector C258 and trunk lock release solenoid harness connector C437. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Yellow/Light Green wire between trunk lid release relay harness connector C258 and trunk lid ajar switch solenoid C437.
  8. Disconnect Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module connector C254. See Figure . Measure resistance in Pink/Orange wire between terminal No. 7 at RAP module harness connector C254 and terminal No. 85 trunk lid release relay harness connector C258. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 11)  . If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Pink/Orange wire between terminal No. 85 at trunk lid release relay harness connector C258 and terminal No. 7 at RAP module harness connector C254.
  9. Remove fuse No. 26 from instrument panel fuse block. Disconnect trunk lid release switch harness connector C2041, located on left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance between output side of fuse No. 26 (Purple/Yellow wire) and Pink/Yellow wire at trunk lid release switch connector C2041. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Purple/Yellow wire between terminal No. 13 at instrument panel fuse block harness connector C247, splice S211 (located on left side of instrument panel fuse block), terminal No. 86 at trunk lid release relay harness connector C258, terminal No. 85 (Pink/Orange wire) at trunk lid release relay harness connector C258 and terminal No. 34 at in line harness connector C214 (located at left corner of instrument panel). Terminal 34 changes color to Pink/Yellow and continues to trunk lid release switch harness connector C2041. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  10. Measure resistance between ground and Gray/Red wire at trunk lid release switch harness connector C2041. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace trunk lid release switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Gray/Red wire between trunk lid release switch connector C2041 and splice S206 (located at left inner corner of instrument panel). Wire color changes to Black and runs to ground location G201 (located at left hand kick panel). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  11. Install trunk lid release relay. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 7 (Pink/Orange wire) at RAP module harness connector C254. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace trunk lid release relay.
  12. Connect a jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 7 (Pink/Orange wire) at RAP module harness connector C254. Measure voltage at Yellow/Light Green wire at trunk lid release solenoid harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace trunk lid release relay.
  13. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire at trunk lid release solenoid harness connector C437. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Black wire between trunk lid release solenoid harness connector C437, splice S416 (located near center of right quarter panel in trunk) and to ground G401 (located at lower middle section of right quarter panel in trunk).
  14. Install trunk lid release relay. Connect RAP module harness connector C254. Measure voltage between ground and Yellow/Light Green wire at trunk lid release solenoid harness connector C437 while pressing TRUNK button on remote keyless entry transmitter. If battery voltage exists, replace trunk lid release solenoid. If battery voltage does not exist, replace RAP module.
