No Communication With Abs Control Module (1998 Models)
- Check 10-amp fuse No. 14 located in instrument panel fuse panel, behind left side of instrument panel. Also, check 30-amp fuse No. 7 located in power distribution box/engine compartment fuse box, in left rear corner of engine compartment. If fuses are okay, go to step 4. If a fuse is blown, replace faulty fuse. Recheck system operation. If fuse No. 14 blows again, go to next step. If fuse No. 7 blows again, go to step 3.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 25-pin ABS control module connector. Install EEC-IV 60-pin Breakout Box (014-00322). Using DVOM, measure resistance between breakout box terminal No. 23 and ground. If resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms, replace ABS control module. Recheck system operation. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Light Blue/Pink wire between ABS control module and instrument panel fuse panel. Recheck system operation.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 25-pin ABS control module connector. Install EEC-IV 60-pin Breakout Box (014-00322). Using DVOM, measure resistance between breakout box terminal No. 9 and ground. If resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms, replace ABS control module. Recheck system operation. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Red wire between ABS control module and power distribution box/engine compartment fuse box. Recheck system operation.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 25-pin ABS control module connector. Install EEC-IV 60-pin Breakout Box (014-00322). Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between breakout box terminal No. 23 and ground. Also, measure voltage between breakout box terminal No. 9 and ground. If both voltage measurements are greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If either voltage measurement is less than 10 volts, repair Light Blue/Pink wire between ABS control module and instrument panel fuse panel, or Red wire between ABS control module and power distribution box/engine compartment fuse box. Recheck system operation.
- Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure resistance between breakout box terminal No. 8 and ground. Also, measure resistance between breakout box terminal No. 24 and ground. If both resistance measurements are less than 5 ohms, diagnose module communications network. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If either resistance measurement is greater than 5 ohms, repair suspect Black wire between ABS control module and ground distribution. Recheck system operation.
