Test B: One Or Both Heated Mirrors Malfunctioning
NOTE:
On vehicle with power windows, Violet/Black wire changes to Violet/Orange WIRE between fuse No. 19 (7.5-amp) and mirror harness connector.
- Operate rear window defogger. If rear window defogger operates, go to next step. If rear window defogger does not operate, repair rear window defogger. See appropriate REAR WINDOW DEFOGGERS article.
- Remove fuse No. 19 (7.5-amp) from instrument panel fuse box. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Violet/Black wire. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn rear window defogger on. Measure voltage at input side of fuse No. 19. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair or replace instrument panel fuse box.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Install fuse No. 19. Disconnect inoperative mirror harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn rear window defogger on. Measure voltage at terminal No. 1 (Violet/Black wire) at mirror harness connector. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Violet/Black wire.
- Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black wire) at mirror harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace mirror glass. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
