  2. Install the steering column lock pawl by positioning the steering column lock pawl, and drive in the steering column lock lever pin. See Fig 25 .
  3. Install the steering column lower bearing retainer, and three bolts. Tighten bolts to specification, See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . See Fig 24 .
  4. Install the steering column bearing. Make sure that when the bearing is installed the inner race is visible. See Fig 23 .
  5. Align the ignition switch with the slot and index mark on the steering column and install the ignition switch. Install and tighten the screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . See Fig 22 .
  6. Install the (A) transmission control selector lever spring clip and the (B) gearshift lever socket bushings on the shift tube. Coat the gearshift lever socket bushings with Steering Gear Grease C3AZ-19578-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESW-M1C87-A. See Fig 21 .
  7. Install the column shift selector lever plunger. Coat the column shift selector plunger with Steering Gear Grease C3AZ-19578-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESW-M1C87-A. See Fig 20 .
  8. Position the gearshift lever in the shift tube. See Fig 19 .
  9. Install the gearshift lever pin in the shift tube. See Fig 18 .
  10. Install the gearshift selector tube spring in the shift tube. Coat the end of the spring with Steering Gear Grease C3AZ-19578-A meeting Ford specification ESW-M1C87-A. See Fig 17 .
  11. Install the transmission selector lever arm and support on the shift tube. Install and tighten bolts to specification, See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . See Fig 16 .
  12. Position the shift tube, and the clamps. Install the bolts and tighten to specification, See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . See Fig 15 .
  13. Install the brake shift interlock solenoid and tighten the bolts. See Fig 14 .
  14. Install the upper steering column bearing on the steering column lock cylinder housing. Make sure when installing the bearing that the inner race is visible. See Fig 27 .
  15. Install the large steering column bearing into the steering column lock cylinder housing. Install the lower steering column bearing so that the inner race is visible when installed. See Fig 28 .
  16. Install the steering column bearing tolerance ring on the steering column shaft and position the steering column shaft in the steering column lock cylinder housing. See Fig 12 .
  17. Install the steering column bearing sleeve. See Fig 11 .
  18. Install the steering column bearing spring. See Fig 10 .
  19. Install the bearing retainer. See Fig 9 .
  20. Install the lock cylinder housing screws loosely and position the steering actuator housing in a vice. See Fig 7 .
  21. Position the steering column lock cylinder housing and the steering column shaft on the steering actuator housing. Make sure the upper and lower (C) steering column lock actuators are aligned. See Fig 29 .
  22. Position the steering column locking levers on the steering actuator housing. Using the shop fabricated tool, install and compress the steering column position spring. See Fig 8 .
  23. Tighten the lock cylinder housing screws. See Fig 7 .
  24. Install the steering column bearing tolerance ring. See Fig 6 .
  25. Install the sensor ring and steering column bearing spring. See Fig 5 .
  26. Position the shock absorber electronic steering sensor. Install the screws and tighten to specification, See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Connect the electrical connector. See Fig 4 .
