Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. DO NOT  apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

The anti-theft system is designed to prevent unauthorized entry into the passenger, engine compartment or luggage compartment. When triggered, the system will provide audible and visual alarms. The horn will sound, parking lights will flash and THEFT indicator on instrument cluster will flash. In addition, the starter system will be disabled, preventing the vehicle from being started until the alarm system has been deactivated. The remote entry transmitter can also activate a PANIC alarm which is similar to the anti-theft alarm, but does not deactivate the starter or cause the THEFT indicator to flash.

The system is controlled by a Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module (also known as control module). Whenever the system is armed, unauthorized entry will be detected by switches located at each door including, trunk (sedans), liftgate (wagons), and hood.

To arm the system, the ignition switch must be in the OFF position, the PANIC alarm must be off and all doors must be closed. The system is armed by pressing the LOCK button on the remote entry transmitter. The system will arm after 30 seconds has elapsed. The THEFT warning light will flash quickly every 2 seconds until the system is triggered or disarmed.

To disarm untriggered system, press the UNLOCK button on the remote entry transmitter. If the driver arms the system and remains inside the vehicle, the system may be disarmed by turning the ignition switch to the RUN position. To disarm triggered system, press the UNLOCK or PANIC button on the remote entry transmitter or turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
