Power Steering System Flushing

WARNING: Do not mix oil types. Any mixture or any unapproved oil can lead to seal deterioration and leaks. A leak can ultimately cause loss of fluid, which can result in a loss of power steering assist.
  1. Remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relay to disable the vehicle. See Figure .
  2. Remove the power steering reservoir from the reservoir bracket. See Fig 1 .
  3. Remove the power steering reservoir bracket.
  4. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering reservoir. Compress and move the hose clamp. Disconnect the power steering return hose and plug the fitting to the reservoir.
  5. Attach an extension hose between the power steering return hose and an empty container.
  6. Fill the power steering pump reservoir. Use WSA-M2C195-A or MERCON M931264 EC type fluid.
  7. NOTE: The starter should not be operated for more than 10-15 seconds at a time.
  8. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while cranking the engine until fluid exiting the extension hose is clear.
  9. Disconnect the extension hose from the power steering return hose and attach the power steering return hose to the power steering pump reservoir.
  10. Install the power steering reservoir bracket.
  11. Install the power steering pump reservoir to the bracket.
  12. CAUTION: Do not overfill the power steering oil reservoir.
  13. Fill the power steering pump reservoir. Use WSA-M2C195-A or MERCON M931264 EC type fluid.
  14. CAUTION: Do not hold the steering wheel against the stops for an extended period of time. Damage to the pump can occur.
  15. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.
  16. Install the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relay. See Figure .
