Power Steering System Bleeding

  1. Remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relay to disable the vehicle. See Fig 1 .
  2. Fill the power steering pump reservoir. Use WSA-M2C195-A or MERCON(R) M931264 EC type fluid.
  3. NOTE: The starter should not be operated for more than 10-15 seconds at a time.
  4. Crank the engine with the starter motor and add fluid until the level remains constant.
  5. NOTE: Front wheels must be off the floor during lock-to-lock rotation of the steering wheel.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle.
  7. CAUTION: Do not hold the steering wheel against the stops for an extended period of time. Damage to the pump can occur.
  8. While cranking the engine, rotate the steering wheel from lock to lock.
  9. Check the fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
  10. Install the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relay. See Fig 1 .
    NOTE: PCM relay is located in engine compartment fuse box. Engine compartment fuse box is in left front of engine compartment.

  11. Start the engine and allow it to run for several minutes.
  12. Rotate the steering wheel from lock to lock.
  13. Turn off the engine and check the fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
