Test J: Traction Control Inoperative
- Check brakelight operation. If brakelights are off without applying brake pedal, go to next step. If brakelights are on without applying brake pedal, repair brakelight circuit.
- Disconnect traction control switch. Check switch continuity. With switch in ON position, continuity should exist between switch pins No. 1 and 2. See Fig 1. With switch in OFF position, continuity should exist between switch pins No. 2 and 4. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace traction control switch. Retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and traction control switch connector Black/Blue wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, problem is in cruise control system. See CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT section.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ABS control module 22-pin connector and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) 8-pin connector (located below brake master cylinder). Connect Breakout Box (007-00033) and Adapter (007-00115). Leave HCU 8-pin connector disconnected. Measure resistance between ground and test pin No. 7 at breakout box. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/White wire. Reconnect all connectors and retest system.
- Measure resistance between test pin No. 7 at breakout box and traction control switch Black/White wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire. Reconnect all connectors and retest system.
- Disconnect breakout box and adapters. Inspect, clean and reconnect ABS control module 22-pin connector and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) 8-pin connector. Start engine and observe traction control indicator. If traction control indicator does not cycle on and off, replace ABS relay and go to next step. If traction control indicator cycles on and off, fault was intermittent. System is operational at this time. No further testing is required. Clear all DTCs.
- Start engine and observe traction control indicator. If traction control indicator does not operate properly, replace HCU. If traction control indicator operates properly, fault was corrected in previous step. Clear all DTCs.
