Section 38 (Anti-Theft System): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The anti-theft system is designed to prevent unauthorized entry into passenger doors or liftgate. When triggered, horn sounds, headlights and taillights flash and starter is disabled. When armed, unauthorized entry is detected by the door ajar switches located in each door, a lock tamper detection switch in the liftgate lock cylinder, an engine compartment switch on left cowl vent panel, or the ignition lock cylinder tamper switch. An alarm indicator light is located on the instrument panel.

These components are also used: Anti-Theft Control Module (ATCM), Generic Electronic Module (GEM), power door lock switches, door ajar switches, ignition lock cylinder tamper switch, horn relay and starter relay. Some functions tie in with Remote Keyless Entry Module (RKEM).

Models with an electronic door lock system have a PANIC feature that operates in conjunction with the anti-theft system and remote keyless entry system. When the PANIC button on the remote transmitter is pushed, the horns will sound and the exterior lights will flash.
