Window Motor: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove door panel and inside panel sound insulator. Remove inside belt weatherstrip. Disconnect window regulator wiring connector.
  2. Using a 1/2-inch drill bit, drill 2 holes in door inner panel at drill dimples located opposite 2 unexposed window regulator electric-drive retaining screws.
CAUTION: Check inside door to ensure window regulator wiring is not in line with holes to be drilled in door inner panel.
  3. Remove 3 window regulator electric-drive retaining screws, using 2 drilled holes and one existing access hole. Push regulator electric-drive toward outside sheet metal to disengage from regulator gear.
  4. With regulator electric-drive and regulator gear disengaged, prop window glass in full up position. Remove regulator electric drive from door.
WARNING: Window regulator electric drive has a counterbalance spring. Window MUST be in UP position to remove power motor or blocked to prevent window from suddenly raising, causing injury.
