One Power Window Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Operate passenger window from right and left door switches. If passenger window is inoperative from one switch only, go to step 5). If passenger window is inoperative from both switches, go to step 6). If passenger window operates, turn ignition off and go to next step.
  2. Remove left window switch assembly. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Leave switches connected to harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using test light, probe Red/Light Blue wire of harness connector. Test light should illuminate. If test light illuminates, turn ignition off and go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Red/Light Blue wire between fuse block and left window switch harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAM  . Repair or replace as necessary. Restore system to original configuration and retest.
  3. Disconnect right window switch from left window switch assembly harness connector. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between ground and harness connector Black wires (2 wires). Continuity should exist at both Black wires. If continuity exists, check window switch operation. See SINGLE SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace switch as necessary. Restore system to original configuration and retest. If switch is okay, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire(s) between ground and window switch harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAM  . Restore system to original configuration and retest.
  4. Reinstall switch in harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using test light, probe harness connector White/Black wire with left switch held in UP position. Probe harness connector Yellow wire with left switch held in DOWN position. Test light should illuminate in each position. If test light illuminates in both positions, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate in one or both positions, replace left window switch. Restore system to original configuration and retest.
  5. Remove left door trim. Disconnect left window motor electrical connector. Using test light, probe motor harness connector White/Black wire with left switch held in UP position. Probe motor harness connector Yellow wire with left switch held in DOWN position. Test light should illuminate in each position. If test light illuminates in both positions, check window motor operation. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR  under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace motor as necessary. Restore system to original configuration and retest. If test light does not illuminate in one or both positions, repair open in appropriate wire. Restore system to original configuration and retest.
  6. Remove suspect switch from door panel. Leave switch connected to harness connector. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using test light, probe harness connector Red/Light Blue wire. Test light should illuminate. If test illuminates, check window switch operation. See SINGLE SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace switch as necessary. Restore system to original configuration and retest. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Red/Light Blue wire between fuse block and suspect window switch harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAM  . Repair or replace as necessary. Restore system to original configuration and retest.
  7. Remove window switch from right door. Leave switch connected to harness connector. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Place right window switch on left door in DOWN position. Using test light, probe White/Yellow wire at right door window switch harness connector. Place right window switch on left door in UP position. Probe Tan/Light Blue wire at right door window switch harness connector. Test light should illuminate in both tests. If test light illuminates in both tests, go to step 9). If test light does not illuminate in both tests, go to next step.
  8. Remove left door right window switch. Leave switch connected to harness connector. See WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Place left door right window switch in DOWN position. Using test light, probe White/Yellow wire at left door harness connector. Place left door right window switch in UP position. Probe Tan/Light Blue wire at left door harness connector. Test light should illuminate in both tests. If test light illuminates in both tests, repair circuit that did not illuminate test light in step 7). Restore system to original configuration and retest. If test light does not illuminate in both tests, replace left door right window switch. Restore system to original configuration and retest.
  10. Reconnect right window switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Place right door window switch in DOWN position. Using test light probe right door switch harness connector Yellow/Red wire. Place right door window switch in UP position. Probe right door switch harness connector Red/Yellow wire. Test light should illuminate in both tests. If test light illuminates in both tests, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate in both tests, replace right door window switch. Restore system to original configuration and retest.
  11. Remove right door trim. Disconnect right window motor electrical connector. Using test light, probe right motor harness connector Yellow/Red wire with right door window switch held in DOWN position. Probe motor harness connector Red/Yellow wire with right door window switch held in UP position. Test light should illuminate in each position. If test light illuminates in both positions, check window motor operation. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR  under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace motor as necessary. Restore system to original configuration and retest. If test light does not illuminate in one or both positions, replace right door window switch. Restore system to original configuration and retest.
