Ball Joint Checking

CAUTION: When hoisting FWD vehicles, ensure hoist adapters are positioned properly. See JACKING & HOISTING in SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.

Raise vehicle so wheels hang freely. Grasp tire by top and bottom edges. Move wheel assembly in and out. Any movement between lower end of knuckle and control arm indicates ball joint wear. Check for loose nuts and bolts before replacing control arm assembly.

Ball joint is not serviceable and must be replaced with lower control arm assembly. Only ball joint dust boot is replaceable.
