Washer Pump Test

  1. If washer does not operate, ensure reservoir is full. Operate washer switch. If washer pump is inoperative, go to next step. If washer pump operates but fluid does not squirt from nozzles, inspect pump, nozzles and hoses for blockage. Repair as necessary. If pump squirts fluid but wipers do not wipe, go to step 7).
  2. Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage on Black/White wire at washer pump while operating washer switch. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 4).
  3. Check washer pump ground circuit (Black wire) for continuity. If continuity does not exist, repair ground circuit. If continuity exists, replace washer pump.
  4. Check for battery voltage on Dark Green wire at Wiper Control Module (WCM), located at fuse block. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check 30-amp fuse No. 10 and Dark Green wire for open circuit. Repair as necessary.
  5. Unplug WCM connector. Press and hold washer switch. Check for continuity between Brown/White and Dark Blue/White wires. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, check for open circuit between wiper switch and WCM. If wiring is okay, test wiper switch. See WIPER SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST  .
  6. Unplug wiper switch connector. Press washer switch. Check for continuity between terminals No. 1 (Brown/White wire) and No. 4 (Dark Blue/Orange) at wiper switch. If continuity exists, repair open in Brown/White and Dark Blue/Orange wire(s) between WCM and wiper switch. If no continuity exists, Replace wiper switch and retest system.
  7. Unplug wiper motor connectors. Turn ignition on. Press and release wiper switch while checking for battery voltage between Dark Blue/Orange and Yellow/Red wires at wiper motor. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, measure wiper motor current. See WIPER MOTOR CURRENT TEST  .
  8. Press and release washer switch. Check for battery voltage between Dark Blue/Orange and Yellow/Red wires at WCM connector. If battery voltage exists, repair wiring between WCM and wiper motor. If battery voltage does not exist, replace WCM.
