Pinpoint Test J - Traction Control Motor Inoperative

NOTE: Before proceeding with the following pinpoint test, PINPOINT TEST C and D must be completed.

  1. Check Circuit Resistance

Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS control module 22-pin connector and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) 8-pin connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Connect Breakout Box (007-00033) and Adapter (007-00115). Measure resistance between test pins No. 28 and 32 at breakout box. If resistance is 0.5 ohm or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 0.5 ohm, replace ABS relay and go to next step.
  2. Check TRACTION CONTROL Indicator Light

Start engine and observe TRACTION CONTROL indicator light. If TRACTION CONTROL light is off, repair made in step 1) corrected problem. If TRACTION CONTROL light is on, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).
  3. Check For Open In Circuit No. 15

Disconnect 2-pin connector from TCS throttle control unit at right front of engine compartment. Measure resistance between breakout box test pin No. 28 and terminal No. 1 (Green/Yellow wire) of 2-pin connector. If resistance is less than 3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 3 ohms or more, repair open Green/Yellow wire. Clear codes and retest.
  4. Check For Open In Circuit No. 31

Measure resistance between breakout box test pin No. 32 and terminal No. 2 (Black/Yellow wire) of TCS throttle control unit 2-pin connector. If resistance is less than 3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 3 ohms or more, repair open Black/Yellow wire. Clear codes and retest.
  5. Check For Short To Ground In Circuit No. 15

Measure resistance between test pins No. 5 and 28 at breakout box. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair short to ground in Green/Yellow wire between TCS throttle control unit 2-pin connector and ABS relay.
  6. Check For Short To Ground In Circuit No. 31

Measure resistance between test pins No. 5 and 32 at breakout box. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, replace TCS throttle control unit. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire between TCS throttle control unit 2-pin connector and ABS relay.
