Pinpoint Test E - Wipers Do Not Park Properly
- Operate wiper system in all modes. Turn wiper switch off. If wipers operate in all modes except park, go to next step. If wipers fail to operate in any mode, go to PINPOINT TEST INDEX
table and perform appropriate pinpoint test.
- Turn ignition switch and wiper switch off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 5 (White/Green wire) at wiper motor harness connector. See Figure
. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Green wire and retest system.
- Disconnect connector "K" from instrument panel fuse block. Measure resistance of White/Blue wire between terminals No. 2 at wiper motor connector and No. 4 at connector "K". See Figure
and Fig 1
. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Blue wire and retest system.
- Measure resistance of Purple wire between terminals No. 3 at wiper motor connector and No. 8 at connector "K". If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance 5 ohms or more, repair open in Purple wire and retest system.
- Remove Central Timer Module (CTM) from instrument panel fuse block. Measure resistance between terminals No. 13 at CTM connector and No. 4 at fuse block connector "K". Figs. Figure
and Fig 1
. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace fuse block and retest system.
- Reconnect fuse block connector "K". Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (Purple wire) at wiper motor connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace fuse block and retest system.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 3 (Purple wire) at wiper motor connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in ground circuit (Black wire) between wiper motor and chassis ground.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure wiper motor connector is firmly seated. Measure resistance between terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 3 (Purple wire) at wiper motor connector. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, replace wiper motor and retest system. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, reconnect any disconnected connectors and go to next step.
- Check wiper linkage for binding or damage, If problem is found, repair linkage as necessary. If no problem is found, replace CTM and retest system.
