Test C: Tailgate Window Inoperative (Bronco)
- Verify tailgate is completely latched. Using master tailgate switch, operate tailgate power window. If tailgate window operates at tailgate master window switch, go to next step. If tailgate power window does not operate, go to step 3 .
- Verify tailgate is completely latched. Insert key to operate power tailgate window. Operate in both directions. Does tailgate power window operate? If yes, check for corrosion, unseated connectors and terminals. Road test vehicle and retest. If no, go to step 10 .
- Check the 20A circuit breaker (number 14) located in the interior fuse panel. Is the circuit breaker OK? If yes, go to step 7 . If no, go to next step.
- Replace the 20A power window circuit breaker (number 14). Turn ignition switch to RUN/ACC. Operate the power window system. Inspect the circuit breaker. Does the circuit breaker fail again? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Locate and disconnect the interior fuse panel connector. Locate and disconnect the master tailgate window switch connector. Measure the resistance between the Light Blue/Black wire at the interior fuse panel connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service Light Blue/Black wire between the master tailgate window switch and interior fuse panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the master tailgate window switch connector. Measure the resistance between the master tailgate window switch (Purple/Light Green) wire and the Purple/Light Blue wire and ground. Are any resistances less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the circuit in question for a short to ground and retest. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no, reconnect the interior fuse panel and go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the master tailgate window switch connector. Turn ignition switch ON. Measure the voltage on the Light Blue/Black wire at the master tailgate window switch connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Light Blue/Black wire between the master tailgate window switch and interior fuse panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the master tailgate window switch connector. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the master tailgate window switch connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Black ground wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Remove the master tailgate window switch. Leave the electrical connector connected. Turn ignition switch to RUN/ACC. Check for voltage at the master tailgate window switch while moving the tailgate window switch. See TAILGATE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH VOLTAGE TEST

If yes, go to next step. If no, replace master tailgate window switch.
- Check the 20A circuit breaker (number 12) located in the interior fuse panel. Is the circuit breaker OK? If yes, go to step 14 . If no, go to next step.
- Replace the 20A power window circuit breaker (number 12). Turn ignition switch to RUN/ACC. Operate the power window system. Inspect the circuit breaker. Does the circuit breaker fail again? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 14 .
- Remove the screws from the tailgate inner cover panel to gain access to the tailgate window electric drive. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (TAILGATE) . Locate and disconnect the interior fuse panel 20A circuit breaker. Locate and disconnect the tailgate lock window switch connector. Measure the resistance between Black/White wire at the interior fuse panel connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, service Black/White wire between the tailgate window switch and interior fuse panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the tailgate window switch connector. Measure the resistance between the tailgate window switch connector Yellow/Red wire, Tan/Black wire and ground. Are any resistances less than 5 ohms? If yes, service the circuit in question for a short to ground. If no, reconnect the interior fuse panel and then go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the tailgate window switch connector. Measure the voltage on the Black/White wire at the tailgate window switch connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Black/White wire between the tailgate window switch and interior fuse panel.
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Measure the resistance of the Purple/Light Green and Purple/Light Blue wires between the tailgate window switch connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the Purple/Light Green and/or Purple/Light Blue wires.
- Turn ignition switch OFF. Check for voltage at the tailgate window switch. See TAILGATE WINDOW SWITCH VOLTAGE TEST TABLE
