Yoke Preload Adjustment

  1. Install rack yoke. Install spring. Apply sealant to yoke plug threads and lock nut. Install yoke plug. Tighten yoke plug to 22-29 ft. lbs. (29-39 N.m), then loosen it.
  2. Install Gauge (T90C3504CH) over yoke plug. Loosen and tighten yoke plug to 43 INCH lbs. (4.9 N.m) 3 times. Scribe yoke plug at 0-degree mark of gauge. Loosen yoke plug until scribe mark aligns with 67.5-degree mark on gauge.
  3. Measure rotating torque of shaft. If rotating torque is not 7.0-11.3 INCH lbs. (0.8-1.3 N.m), repeat adjustment procedure.
