Shift Control Cable

CAUTION: After completing linkage adjustments, verify neutral safety switch operates properly. With parking brake applied and brake pedal pressed, try to start engine in each gear position. Engine should crank only when gearshift lever is in Neutral and Park.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove shift console. Place shift lever in Park. Remove shift lever knob screws and remove knob. Remove 4 screws and transmission control selector bezel.
  2. Ensure detent spring roller is in Park detent. Loosen transmission shift cable bracket bolts. Adjust shift cable and bracket at control lever to desired position. Check shift cable and bracket at transaxle lever for adjustment.
  3. Lightly press selector cam to verify guide pin and guide plate clearances are within specification. See Fig 1 . Verify guide plate and guide pin are within the same specification when control lever is set to Neutral and Drive. Readjust cable and bracket as necessary.
