Engine Cooling Fan: Description

Power for cooling fan is provided by COOLING FAN fuse, located in engine compartment main fuse block. Cooling fan is activated when power is supplied to fan motor, through cooling fan relay, located in left front corner of engine compartment. Cooling fan relay coil power is supplied through ENGINE fuse, located in underdash fuse block.

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) grounds cooling fan relay coil when it determines the need for cooling fan operation. When relay operates, it provides power to cooling fan motor.

On vehicles equipped with A/C, an additional relay is installed in the circuit. A/C clutch relay by-passes the engine temperature portion of the circuit. By-pass circuit allows cooling fan motor to operate whenever A/C switch is on.
