Tachometer Does Not Reflect Engine Speed

  1. Tachometer Ground Circuit Check

Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster C209 (White) connector. Measure resistance of Black/Yellow wire between ground and instrument cluster connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair Black/Yellow wire.
  2. Distributor To Instrument Cluster Circuit Check

Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster C210 (Black) connector and 3-pin distributor connector. Measure resistance between ground and Yellow/Black wire at instrument cluster connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between instrument cluster connector and 3-pin distributor connector. If resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms between instrument cluster and ground, and less than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and distributor, replace tachometer. If resistances are not as specified, repair Yellow/Black wire.
