Manual Bleeding
CAUTION:
DO NOT allow reservoir to run dry during bleeding operation. If brake fluid is spilled onto vehicle paint, rinse off immediately using water.
- Clean master cylinder cap and surrounding area. Remove cap.
- Wrap a cloth around brakeline to absorb escaping brake fluid. Press brake pedal down slowly, forcing air out. With pedal fully down, tighten fitting. Release pedal.
- Loosen fitting. Repeat procedure until air is completely purged from master cylinder. When all air has been purged, tighten fitting while pedal is down. Release pedal and press again. Pedal should be firm. It pedal is not firm, repeat bleeding procedure.
- Attach a rubber drain hose to bleeder fitting on front of master cylinder. Submerge other end of hose in small container half filled with clean brake fluid. Open bleeder fitting about 3/4 turn. Slowly press brake pedal completely down.
- Close bleeder fitting. Allow pedal to return to fully released position. Repeat procedure until all air is purged from master cylinder. On all models, repeat procedure at bleeder fitting on RABS valve and at each wheel cylinder and caliper. See the BLEEDING SEQUENCE procedures. When bleeding is complete, refill master cylinder.
