Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Ford Mustang. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove fuel gauge sending unit from tank. Measure resistance between ground terminal or housing of sending unit and terminal which connects to Yellow/White wire. With float at empty position, resistance should be about 14-18 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
  2. Observe meter while moving float to full position; resistance should change smoothly. Resistance with float at full position should be about 155-165 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
