Test J - System Activates Falsely

Factory installed remote keyless entry systems have a PANIC feature on transmitter. When PANIC button is accidentally pressed it may be mistaken for an unarmed system activating falsely. If PANIC button is pressed, horns will honk and parking lights will flash instead of low beam headlights. Ensure false activation is not caused by remote transmitter.

  1. Arm alarm system. Verify system does not trigger immediately after arming. If system arms and does not trigger, go to next step. If system triggers, disarm system by unlocking door with key. Go to step 3).
  2. Using a voltmeter, check voltage at control module pin No. 14 with all doors closed. If voltage is less than 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 5 volts, service Dark Blue/Orange wire, and/or door ajar switches.
  3. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage at control module pin No. 5. If voltage is more than 2 volts, go to step 5). If voltage is less than 2 volts, disconnect hood switch and go to next step.
  4. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage at control module pin No. 5. If voltage is more than 2 volts, adjust hood for flush fit and/or replace hood switch. If voltage is less than 2 volts, repair Tan/Light Green wire and retest system.
  5. When alarm activates falsely, turn ignition key to RUN/ACC position. If alarm continues to sound, replace control module and retest system. If alarm shuts off, problem is in PANIC feature of remote keyless entry system. See KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section.
