Anti-Theft System: Description
The anti-theft system is designed to prevent unauthorized entry into vehicle passenger, luggage compartments and engine compartment. When activated, system provides both audible and visual warning alarms. The horn will sound and the low beam headlights, taillights, parking lights or hazard warning lights, and alarm indicator will flash off and on. In addition, the vehicle starter is disabled, preventing the vehicle from being started until alarm system has been deactivated.
The system is controlled by an Anti-Theft Control module. When armed, unauthorized entry is detected by the door ajar switches located in each door, a lock tamper detection switch in the rear door or liftgate lock cylinder, a hood switch on right fender panel or the ignition key lock cylinder sensor. An alarm indicator is located on the instrument panel.
The following existing vehicle components are also used in the anti-theft system: power door lock switches, door ajar switches and lights, ignition switch, horns and horn relay, low beam headlights, autolight system, tail and parking lights, starter relay and remote keyless entry system (if equipped). Some models also have an ignition switch monitoring function which detects switch tampering. System does not have to be armed for ignition switch monitoring.
Models with an electronic door lock system have a PANIC feature that operates in conjunction with the anti-theft system and remote keyless entry system. When the PANIC button on the remote transmitter is pushed, the horns will sound and the exterior lights will flash.
