Description & Operation: Operation: Probe

Cooling fan is controlled by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). On 2.0L M/T, PCM receives input from Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. On all models except 2.0L M/T, PCM receives input from ECT and Cooling Fan Engine Coolant Temperature (ECTF) sensor.

When coolant temperature is greater than 206°F (97°C), PCM energizes low speed relay and provides cooling fan operation. When engine coolant temperature reaches 226°F (108°C), PCM energizes high speed relay and provides high speed cooling fan operation. When A/C is on, condenser fan relay controls cooling fan relay and operates cooling fan at high speed.
