Resolve Sensor Signal Test

  1. For retrieved code, check for the following conditions on front wheels or rear axle. Check for metal chips or debris on sensor pole or can. Ensure air gap is less than .070" (1.8 mm) for front sensors, and less than .050" (1.3 mm) for rear sensor. Inspect speed sensor tone ring for damage. On front sensors, inspect tone ring for material build-up between teeth.
  2. If metal chips or debris are found on front sensor, clean sensor as necessary. If metal chips or debris are found on rear sensor, remove rear sensor and clean as necessary. Drain, clean and refill rear carrier assembly. If air gap is not as specified on front sensor, replace sensor. Ensure mounting surface is clean. If air gap on rear sensor is not as specified, go to IMPROPER SENSOR AIR GAP (REAR) TEST  .
  3. If speed sensor tone ring is damaged, replace sensor. If material build-up occurs on ring teeth, clean sensor as necessary. Go to HIGH SENSOR GAP (CREEP) TEST  . If previous conditions in step 1) do not exist, perform INTERMITTENT DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE  .
