Test I: System Activates Falsely
- Arm the alarm system. Verify system does not trigger immediately after system is armed. If the system arms and does not trigger, go to next step. If the system triggers, disarm system by unlocking driver or passenger door with key then go to step 3 .
- While system remains armed, open trunk lock and apply movement to the anti-theft trunk lock lock switch connector. Verify system does not trigger. If the system triggers, go to next step. If the system does not trigger, then disarm system. Replace anti-theft trunk lock lock cylinder and matching glove compartment cylinder. See 1992 POWER DOOR LOCKS, FUEL DOOR RELEASE & TRUNK RELEASE - COUGAR & THUNDERBIRD article. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure voltage at control module connector terminal No. 3 (Orange White wire) with door closed. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If measured voltage is more than 7 volts, go to next step. If measured voltage is less than 2 volts, repair Orange/White wire between door ajar diodes and control module connector, and/or check door ajar switches, see DOOR DISARM SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. Retest system for normal operation.
- Measure voltage at terminal No. 5 (Brown/White wire). If voltage is more than 7 volts, replace the control module. See ANTI-THEFT MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system for normal operation. If voltage is less than 2 volts, go to next step.
- Disconnect anti-theft trunk lock lock cylinder switch from wiring harness. Arm system. Verify system does not trigger immediately after system is armed. If the system arms and does not trigger, replace anti-theft trunk lock lock cylinder and matching glove compartment cylinder. See 1992 POWER DOOR LOCKS, FUEL DOOR RELEASE & TRUNK RELEASE - COUGAR & THUNDERBIRD article. If the system triggers, replace the control module. See ANTI-THEFT MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system for normal operation.
