Instrument Panel: Description

NOTE: Unless specified otherwise, references to "F" Series include "F" Series Super Duty.

The analog instrument panel, for all models except Aerostar, is equipped with the following standard equipment: voltage/temperature gauge and oil pressure/fuel gauge. The tachometer is a available as optional equipment. Aerostar, Bronco, Explorer, Ranger and "F" Series use magnetic-type gauges to monitor fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The magnetic gauge system does not use Instrument Voltage Regulator (IVR). All "E" Series use bimetallic-type gauges that incorporate IVR.

The IVR controls and maintains an average pulsating voltage of 5 volts, which is delivered to each gauge. To prevent radio interference, a suppression choke is used in line between printed circuit and IVR.
