Section 7 (Drive Axle - Front): Description

Dana model 28-2 front axle is an integral carrier housing. Center line of drive pinion is mounted on center line of ring gear. Axle housing is made of aluminum and is mounted to sub-frame assembly. Axle shafts are retained in axle housing by "C" clips in differential case. See Fig 1 . Drive pinion depth and differential side bearing preload are set by use of shims. Pinion bearing preload is set by use of collapsible pinion spacer.
