Alternator & Regulator - Models W/Internal Fan: Description
The Motorcraft Integral Alternator-Regulator (IAR) system with internal fan has an electronic voltage regulator mounted on the rear side of the alternator. Current is supplied from alternator/regulator system to rotating field of alternator through 2 brushes contacting 2 slip rings. Alternating current is rectified to direct current by 6 diodes.
